Tips for Preserving Basil All Year Long
Basil is that key ingredient that can add certain oomph to almost any sort of cuisine. With that said, many probably wish for a method that’ll allow them to preserve basil they’ve grown all year long. Here are some methods you can utilize to preserve the basil.
- Salt – wash the basil in water and let it dry. Take a small jar and add a layer of kosher salt at the bottom then the basil leaves and fill it with olive oil. Keep adding the layers in a similar manner until the jar is full.
- Freeze – was the basil and peel off the leaves and let it dry. Spread the leaves on a tray and let them freeze. Once frozen, store them in an airtight bag.
- Ice cubes – wash the basil leaves and chop them. Fill the ice cube tray with these chopped leaves and fill it with olive oil and freeze them.
- Puree and freeze – wash the basil in water and let it dry completely. Puree the basil leaves with olive oil in a food processor. Fill the ice cube tray with the puree and freeze it. Once frozen, store it in an airtight freezer-safe container.
